History of PRINCE2 and PRINCE

PRINCE2 has been developed over the last two decades, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, PRINCE – a UK government method originally devised for managing government IT projects.

During the early 1990s it was identified that the principles, tools and techniques for managing IT projects could be customised and applied to projects of any kind, within any industry.

This prompted a review of the original PRINCE methodology in which all specific references to IT project were removed. The result was an up-to-date, generic project methodology we now know as PRINCE2.
